It began with a feeling
Before coffee became something to study, it was something Ahmed watched bring people together. A door opening. A place made at the table. A cup offered before the conversation began. Swan starts with that small, generous gesture: making someone feel there is time for them.
The first lesson was welcome.
As a child, Ahmed lingered near the sounds of a gathering: cups meeting saucers, familiar laughter, stories taking their time. The aroma reached him before he understood what was in the cup. He noticed how serving coffee could soften a room. Long before flavour had a vocabulary, hospitality had given it meaning.
Then came the questions.
Growing older, he began listening to the coffee itself. Why did one cup feel bright and another round? What changed when the heat eased, or the brew took a little longer? Curiosity drew him toward the roast: the changing colour of a bean, the unfolding aroma, the patience between decisions. Each cup left another question worth following.
